About LOOM IN A TUBE

and Rebecca Smith Tapestry Art

My life has centered around weaving since I took my first class more than twenty years ago.  Weaving is one of the oldest and most revered art forms in all of human history, and I have been blessed with both a talent and passion for pursuing it.

My roles as artist, teacher and promoter of weaving have coalesced into the creation of the Loom in a Tube™ family of products. So often while in bookstores and hobby stores, I have been surprised by the absence of weaving topics among the multitude of kits and books covering knitting, needlepoint, quilting, and possibly every other craft form known to exist.

It struck me that weaving is much harder to take up as a hobby than other craft forms.  Someone interested in learning to weave would have to locate a class or book, find suitable yarns, and last but not least, procure a loom, which costs considerably more than a set of knitting needles.

I decided to create a product that would make the opportunity to learn to weave available to a lot more people in a lot more places.  My plan was to provide the tools, materials and instructions for learning to weave in one convenient format. From the beginning, I have had four goals in mind.  The product should be:

  • Affordable

  • Accessible

  • Do-able

  • Fun

The Loom in a Tube products are the outcome of these goals.

I dedicate this endeavor to my mother, who encouraged me in everything but was especially proud of me in the role of teacher.
